PGA Picks and Predictions 7/20/16 - RBC Canadian Open

by Linda Olson July 21, 2016, 1:01

The best golfers in the world will spend the week north of the border to another global destination as they get set to tee it up this week in the RBC Canadian Open.

"ZTE is committed to ensuring consumers get cutting edge technology at an affordable price and we're looking forward to letting RBC Canadian Open spectators get up close and personal with our newest flagship device, the Axon 7", Cheng told Xinhua on Tuesday.

Thirty-five players are competing after playing at Royal Troon.

The field this week features the top two golfers in the OWGR (official world golf ranking) as Dustin Johnson looks to continues his summer of success and Jason Day looks to defend the title he won coming off disappointment at last year's Open Championship. He was also runner-up here in 2013.

Now No.2 in the world after breaking through for his maiden major at the US Open, and then taking over Day late in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Full coverage of the Masters, Open Championship, US Open, US PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup.

The 2016 PGA TOUR season is slowly dwindling down, and the golf world is now on a high after a masterful showing by the duo of Open Champion Henrik Stenson and runner-up Phil Mickelson this past week at Royal Troon Golf Course. However, he managed only a 72 on Sunday and finished solo third, two shots behind victor Jason Day of Australia.

Colin Montgomerie: Pity I had no emotional Open send-off
He said: "One of the best shots I have hit in my life was the fourth shot at the first, out of the bunker, away from the hole. But by lunchtime, the father of three was back at work in the Royal Troon golf shop. "I don't think that did anything to it".

It is four straight years for Connors to be in the Canadian Open. He has three wins this year with a total of eight top-10 finishes.

It's a shame newly crowned British Open champ Henrik Stenson and his weekend foil at Royal Troon, Phil Mickelson, won't be here. After a slow start this season, the Canadian tied for 12th in the Quicken Loans National and tied for 20th in the Barbasol Championship in his last two outings. He won earlier this year in Puerto RIco and finished T-22 at Glen Abbey in 2015.

This will be the 28th time Glen Abbey has been used for this tournament. It's already been a successful sophomore season on the PGA Tour for Finau, who captured the Puerto Rico Open at Cocoa Beach in a playoff over Steve Marino with a birdie on the third playoff hole, and he has six other finishes in the top 25.

There will be 14 native sons trying to end a well-documented 60-plus-year drought of a Canadian not winning this tournament.

Pat Fletcher, born in England, was the last Canadian victor in 1954 at Point Grey in Vancouver, British Columbia. Last year Hamilton made the cut comfortably after two under-par rounds of 71 and 68.
