Cyanogen's massive layoff leaves 20% of workers jobless

That said, Kondik says that CyanogenMod, and working on a full Android ROM experience, is something that works for the company and it will continue to stick with it. The worst loser in this round of layoffs are allegedly the people that worked (at least in part) on the open source branches of Cyanogen Inc.'s software.

According to reports from Android Police and ReCode, Cyanogen now laying off a number of its staff, most of which are developers on the company's operating system. It seems that Cyanogen has finally realized it is nearly impossible to have an edge over Google due to the massive demand of the search engine giant's OS in the smartphone industry. Employees who were not let go were told not to show up to work today. Systems and QA teams have seen big cuts too, and Cyanogen's offices in Lisbon and India may be closed off altogether. Cyanogen hired a new COO by the name Lior Tal, joining the company from Facebook.

The Android community was abuzz when reports of Cyanogen downsizing its workforce started to flow. Once there, they were pushed to meetings with human resources who reportedly laid them off without advanced warnings. OnePlus One came loaded with Cyanogen OS but this partnership didn't last long as the company then made a decision to part with OnePlus in favour of joining Micromax.

Ex-Philippine leader Arroyo freed from years of detention
One of Arroyo's lawyers said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel before the release that Arroyo is "in high spirits". Dureza was reappointed as peace talks adviser under Duterte, who added a number of Arroyo allies to his Cabinet.

The company may now pivot from building its OS for manufacturers to building apps instead. It's unclear exactly what the new strategy will entail, but it sounds like it could mark a scaled-back version of Cyanogen's grand plans to challenge Google for dominance of Android.

Three years ago the developers of Cyanogen formed their own corporation to focus on their own operating system and license it out to other phone manufactures. As for the app pivot? The community could continue to develop CyanogenMod, but it seems numerous core CyanogenMod developers at the company will no longer be paid to work on CyanogenMod.
