Huawei to 'Make in India' soon

Chinese telecom and networking giant Huawei Technologies will setup manufacturing plants in India, to locally manufacture smartphones in the country, according to an Economic Times report. The Huawei P9 is priced at Rs 39,999 and is clearly the most expensive Huawei phone (if you excuse the Nexus 6P that is) on the market considering that the Honor series caters to the more mainstream and budget oriented buyers.

Huawei is aiming to garner 10% share in India's highly competitive smartphone market, on the back of its dual-brand strategy and special focus on the offline retail channel, having restructured its consumer, or handset, business. Rumors say that the device will be getting a 12-megapixel rear camera, but others claim that it's going to be 20 megapixels.

The smartphone has a 13MP rear camera with a f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front camera. Weighing in at 160g and having a thickness of 7.3mm, it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI version 4.1 on top. You will be able to expand the storage to up to 128GB using MicroSD card slot.

Earlier this week, the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) has named Huawei P9 the "European Consumer smartphone 2016-17" under its Mobile Device awards.

Huawei is offering a 2-year warranty and three months display replacement option with P9. It is the successor to the Huawei G9 Lite which is the same device that was sold in foreign markets as Huawei P9 Lite. LG G5 comes with a 5.3-inch Quad HD always-on display. While the global launch included a 4 GB of RAM/ 64 GB of inbuilt storage variant, it is absent from India launch.

The innovation award went to LG G5 for its bold design and the best Smartphone Camera award went to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Besides, it offers WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth and comes with USB Type-C port. Indian customers can now buy the Huawei P9 exclusively on domestic e-commerce platform Flipkart starting August 18. We review the Huawei P9 in detail to find out.

The company also unveiled two tablet PCs, the Matebook and TalkBand B3, which will be making its debut in India soon.
