Three surfers bit by sharks on Sunday off Flordia's New Smyrna Beach

Three Surfers in Orlando, Florida were bitten by multiple sharks off the same area of New Smyrna Beach over a period of a few hours on Sunday, September 18.

The shark bites happened at New Smyrna Beach in Volusia County, leaving one of the men attacked, facing surgery in hospital.

A 43-year-old man was bitten on his lower leg or ankle shortly before 10:45 a.m. Sunday while surfing south of a jetty. Chucky Luciano, 36, of Miami was bitten on both hands and had to undergo reconstructive surgery.

Below is a Facebook post from the man whose hands were bitten by the shark. The surfer received what was described as being "significant lacerations", though his injury was not considered to be a life-threatening one. "But I'm very grateful that I survived and will get to recover".

It is widely known as the "shark bite capital of the world". Beach authorities are now advising no one enter the water above their knees. Most of the bites are from young bull sharks nibbling for what they think is food.

All along the coast, fishermen have seen bigger fish taking advantage of the mullet run, when the mullet move to offshore waters to spawn.

"You're going to see them,"Doug Watson, a surfer from Sanford told local news".
