The video sunglasses are designed for uploading 10-second clips directly to the memories section of the Snapchat app via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Hours before The Journal's article, Business Insider obtained and published the first video of its new glasses, which hinted that the company would be changing its name.

First hardware product of the company, followed by the renaming, called Spectacles. Regarding the style of new spectacles from Snapchat, it's one-size-fits-all in black, teal or coral. "Now that we are developing other products, like Spectacles, we need a name that goes beyond just one product".

The picture and video messaging app is expected to release its Spectacles sunglasses in the U.S. in time for Christmas, priced at about $130 (£100). The reason for cameras attached to sunglasses is to make your Snaps and videos more immersive and to make memories feel like they're replaying right in front of your eyes.

In a very hip yet vague promotional video released Friday, the company demonstrates a user wearing the glasses while skateboarding.

The 26-years old Evan Spiegel has made the world addictive of its quirky smartphone app- Snapchat.

Snapchat announced its first hardware product Saturday, calling Spectacles a "totally new type of camera" because it records videos from "the human perspective". The lens was created to be wider than smartphone cameras, more closely mirroring the natural view of human eyes.

Granted, Spectacles isn't an augmented reality product, as many thought it might be, and the fact that it's primarily a camera helps keep the cost down. Spectacles will also be "capable of taking a day's worth of snaps on a single charge", wrote the company in a blog post.

Snap said Spectacles captures video in a new circular format that can be viewed full screen whether holding a phone upright or on its side.
