April the giraffe could have her baby 'today, tonight,' zoo says

The Animal Adventure Park posted on Facebook Friday morning that they believe April could have a calf "today" or "tonight".

Jordan Patch, the owner of the private zoo in upstate NY that April calls home, maintains to Inside Edition that April's pregnancy is not a hoax.

This is what we have all been waiting for!

"Keep April and our team in your positive thoughts", the park said on Facebook. "It should not be much longer".

Imagine if the labor and delivery rooms had cameras and provided live streaming to the internet to watch you while expecting, in labor and during the delivery of your baby.

Giraffes can give birth at any hour of the day or night, but April's most ardent watchers may want to set their alarm clocks for early morning hours, as "many facilities report predawn births", Patch told Live Science.

Friday could finally be the day that the beloved animal gives birth to her calf.

The calf will be April's fourth calf and her mate Oliver's first calf. "I would hope that on April 1 the world does find out she was pregnant".

The Animal Adventure Park began live streaming from April's enclosure on February 23 in anticipation of the new calf's birth.

3/3 Evening UpdateIt was clear to all watching, the evening keeper check was cut short by April. Her partner, Oliver the Giraffe, is sometimes also seen in the feed. Male giraffes, called bulls, really only care about two things, the zoo says: "fighting and the unmentionable".

The zoo said it will hold an online competition to name the baby giraffe once it's born.

April has been with Animal Adventure Park since September 2015 and this is her first calf birth at the park. Giraffe's instinctively hide their labor for however long it's lasting in order to not draw attention from predators who will wait out a giraffe's labor in order to attack once the calf is born. Calves are on average, 6 feet tall and weigh around 150 pounds upon birth. He and park staff have been with the giraffe all morning.
