Misbah set to retire after Windies series

West Indies Captain Jason Holder said making the final cut for the ICC 2019 World Cup is his team's main focus heading into the upcoming One Day International (ODI) home series against Pakistan which bowls off this Friday at the Providence National Stadium, Guyana.

As captain, Misbah's batting average is now 50.55, compared to his career average of 45.84, and eight of his ten Test centuries have come as captain.

Misbah, who was addressing a press conference in Lahore, said it was a "personal decision" to retire and that it would be "wrong" to attribute it to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

He is Misbah-ul-Haq. The Zen Master of cricket.

Misbah, who was named one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year yesterday, has led his side in 53 Tests since taking over and won 24 times. "I will try to finish it on a hight note", Pakistan's most successful Test captain said.

Pakistan are presently on a six-Test losing streak but are expected to be too strong for West Indies once the Test series commences on April 22. "We gave Kamran chances in the recent Twenty20 [in West Indies] and he is in the one-day squad but in the presence of the main wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed it was tough to get him in the Test side", he said.

But Misbah's batting form dipped dramatically during the Australia tour, scoring only 76 runs in three test matches.

Misbah, who retired from ODIs and T20Is after the 2015 World Cup, has played 72 Test matches so far, scoring 4951 runs and is now seventh on the list of Pakistan's highest Test run-getters.

"I am satisfied", he said.

"I had some unfinished business, but that's how life is".

"The series against West Indies is a good opportunity to get the team back on the winning track", he added. "When I started playing club cricket I used to be a fast bowler", Shadab said.

Sarfaraz is already Pakistan captain in the limited-over formats of the game.

Misbah has given Pakistani cricket and its avid fans plenty of moments to be proud of.

Misbah performs iconic push-ups to celebrate achievement when Pakistan secured number-one Test ranking.

Pakistan have struggled since their series triumph over the West Indies in the UAE past year slumping to six consecutive Test defeats with the skipper struggling for form as his side were whitewashed by New Zealand and Australia on the road.
