Jeep has built the world's fastest SUV

"Jeep Grand Cherokee is now the most powerful and quickest SUV as well, with the introduction of our new 707-horsepower Trackhawk", said Mike Manley, head of the Jeep brand at FCA.

The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is everything that we had hoped, with the supercharged 6.2L Hemi delivering 707 horsepower and 645lb-ft of torque, making this Hellcat-powered beast the world's most powerful gasoline-powered production SUV - beating every other SUV in the world by a massive margin.

Jeep says that the Trackhawk is the most powerful and quickest SUV.

Beyond the 100km/h mark, the quarter mile will arrive in 11.9 seconds and the top speed is 290km/h.

Track mode uses a 35:65 front/rear torque split, reduces shift times a further 18 percent to 160 milliseconds, and tightens all the chassis settings to the max for smooth, dry surfaces.

More details will be announced during the vehicle's official debut at the New York International Show (NYIAS) on Wednesday, April 12. Note that Jeep is claiming its baby is the world's quickest SUV, but the track sheets from our Tesla Model X P90D (Ludicrous) suggest that'll be one photo-finish drag race (060 in 3.2, 11.7 at 116.0 miles per hour in the quarter). The 15.75-inch vented rotors are clamped down on by six-piston, bright yellow Brembo calipers.

Eddie Vedder from the newly inducted American group Pearl Jam was among performers at the multi-hour ceremony. Instead, Arnel Pineda sang lead as the band performed their hits, including " Don't Stop Believin' ".

The rear drive shaft, differential and half shafts have all been upgraded to cope with the extra power, and launch control is standard, as much to protect the drivetrain, we suspect, as to improve take-offs.

On the outside, the look is aggressive with a ride height 1 inch lower than non-SRT Grand Cherokee models. The front suspension has also been beefed up with coil springs and better control arms.

The Cherokee is already being built in China to cater the local market, so it would make sense for Jeep to stretch it for the People's Republic where customers put a great emphasis on the amount of space available inside the cabin.

Apart from its bold styling, an easy way to tell a Trackhawk from other Grand Cherokee variants is air vents in place of the foglights at each side of the front bumper. You'll want to swap out your tires, too, as the Trackhawk comes with either Pirelli 295/45Z Scorpion Verde All-Season tires or the new Pirelli P Zero three-season tires wrapped around 20-inch wheels. Out back, the dual exhausts are replaced by black chrome quad exhaust tips.

"Supercharged" badges on the front doors and a rear "Trackhawk" round out the exterior changes. The interior also gets some subtle updates in the form of black chrome and carbon fiber trim adorn the inside, while cooled Nappa leather and suede front seats are standard.
