Student-driven car runs over pavement dwellers; 1 dead, 3 hurt

A pavement dweller was killed and three others were injured after being run over by a vehicle allegedly driven by a Class XII student of DPS Mathura Road today, police said. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday.

The injured, identified as Asif, Karan and Sanjay, were undergoing treatment at a hospital.

A senior police officer told the Press Trust of India (PTI) that the victims were hit by a Hyundai i20 driven by a Class 12 student of a top school in the national capital. His friends fled soon after the accident but they later joined the probe, he said. Police say that the incident was reported around 5.45am.

It has been learned that a case is registered under IPC 304, according to ANI report. Meanwhile, patrolling staff also reached the spot. During interrogation, the teenager claimed to be a student of a well known school in south Delhi and had recently appeared for the board exams. While two managed to flee, the driver of the auto was held by the police.

"The boy, claiming to be 18 years old, who was driving the vehicle, was apprehended by the police at the spot".

"They were driving recklessly".
