IPhone 8 production delays could seriously limit pre-2018 availability

Ming Chi Kuo, whose analysis of Apple and its supply chain is highly regarded, says that Apple will not begin ramping up production of the iPhone 8 until October or November.

Rumors have been circulating for some time that due to a lack of agility in production and no ramp-up so far, iPhone 8 could experience extended extreme shortage of supply and even delayed launch. Constraints in Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) supply chain have also been cited for the delay.

UBS specialist Steven Milunovich previously mentioned that an iPhone 8 base model with 64 GB storage could carry a US$850 (AU$1,130) price tag, which falls on the same range as rival Samsung's latest flagship, the US$840 (AU$1,115) Galaxy S8.

More and more images purporting to be leaked iPhone 8 parts and schematics have been coming out over the past few weeks to back all of this up.

Why are Wall Street analysts suggesting that the next iPhone could more than before?

Previous rumors suggest that the Apple iPhone 8's specs list will include a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge AMOLED display, an in-house A11 processor, iOS 11 software, 3GB of RAM, 256GB and 64GB of internal storage, a revolutionary new 3D front camera and a long-range wireless charging feature. If Apple isn't beginning mass production on the iPhone 8 until October or November, they'll nearly certainly be hard to come by until early 2018. That means you may have to wait months before you can get the OLED iPhone 8, which is rumoured to be the most exciting of the three new phones.

Meanwhile, Apple is expected to announce its new iPhone during its signature hardware event in September. With the new OLED iPhone 8 Apple expects to boost sales figures again. The iPhone 8 features a brand new redesign. The iPhone's screen, using OLED technology for the first time, could be as large as the screen on the iPhone 7 Plus but would fit into an iPhone 7-sized phone.

The iPhone 8 release date is approaching fast. iPhone usage in America is at an all-time high. The Cupertino, California company is expected to boost its upcoming handset with new enhancements, ones that could ultimately affect the phone's production. Earlier this month China's Economic Daily News reported the same saying the OLED panel lamination process was causing issues, and the front-facing 3D camera sensors were posing problems, too.
