"My admonition to the public, especially in northeast Arkansas is to listen to the local authorities and if they order evacuations that you do so quickly".

The Randolph County Office of Emergency Management says about 150 people are affected by the evacuations in east Pocahontas.

On Wednesday, Hutchinson said he deployed additional National Guard resources, including personnel and vehicles, to aid in search, rescue and recovery efforts in northeast Arkansas.

Hutchinson said officials have identified nine levee breaches in Randolph County alone, and three of those are categorized as major.

"This is the most extensive flooding in an urban area that I've ever seen as governor", Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said.

Heavy rainfall that started last weekend sparked flooding and forced the closure of hundreds of roads in Missouri, Arkansas and IL.

A steady rain that began Wednesday continued Thursday.

Missouri is among several states in the central USA where unsafe floods have occurred.

St. Louis County officials are warning that floodwater can contain raw sewage, chemicals and others dangers. But the mess left behind was substantial.

The Meramec River in suburban St. Louis also is on the decline. Residents aren't breathing easy yet: More rain on Thursday will keep the river high for several days.
