Titans co-captain caught up in NRL drug scandals

New Zealand captain Jesse Bromwich and fellow forward Kevin Proctor were stood down by their respective clubs on Sunday after local media reported they had been involved in purchasing and consuming cocaine in Canberra early on Saturday.

"New Zealand Rugby League is extremely disappointed by the behavior of these players and understand that both players have acknowledged their actions".

"They have broken the values and the standards we have set around the Kiwis".

"NZRL and the Kiwis will continue to work hard to ensure the people of New Zealand are proud to support our teams both on and off the field".

Kevin Proctor of the Titans has stood down as the team's co-captain.

Hopefully, the thought of Bromwich and Proctor watching the World Cup from the sidelines means players think twice before their next big night out.

The decision to exclude the pair from the tournament, which will be held in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, was taken after NZRL management and senior players met to discuss possible sanctions.

Can pack for ICC Champions Trophy in England
India will take part in the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy following the BCCI's approval on Sunday. Meanwhile, the selection committee of the BCCI is all set to meet in Delhi on Monday.

Both Bromwich and Proctor have already been punished by their clubs - the Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans respectively - with Bromwich also stepping down as Kiwis captain, the title he was only given in late 2016.

"With this incident, we definitely need to make some changes going into the World Cup, 100 per cent". "The rest of the night is a bit of a blur as I obviously had too much to drink before the incident", Proctor said.

A Canberra man appeared in court today over the alleged sale of cocaine and was granted bail over drug supply.

Bromwich was suspended by the Storm for two games and handed a $20,000 fine while a punishment for Proctor is expected to be announced shortly.

Court documents said CCTV allegedly captured Crowther preparing a white substance on his phone in Canberra's Petrie Plaza, near Cube Nightclub about 5.10am on Saturday.

Titans chief executive Graham Annesley on Sunday said he would reach out to the governing body over why there wasn't stricter supervision of players whilst on representative duties.

He was also named New Zealand Rugby League's Kiwis player of the year in 2016.
