Maria Sharapova says she won't request Wimbledon wildcard

Early past year, Sharapova announced that doping tests revealed the presence of the banned performance enhancing drug, meldonium, in her body.

Organisers at the French Open confirmed on Tuesday that they would not hand Sharapova a place at Roland Garros, with French Tennis Federation president Bernard Guidicelli insisting "then there can not be a wild card for return from doping".

Qualifying rounds are scheduled to be played between June 26 and 29, with Sharapova having to go through three rounds in order to get among the 128 players in the main draw for Wimbledon, which takes place from July 3 to 16.

After her French Open snub, Sharapova was granted a wildcard to compete in the AEGON Classic in Birmingham next month.

"I have some great memories of playing there over the years, including winning the title on two previous occasions".

"Because of my improved ranking after the first three tournaments of my return, I will also be playing the Qualifying of Wimbledon in Roehampton, and will not be requesting a wild card into the main draw", the five-time Grand Slam champion wrote.

'Kia Motors chose Andhra due to Hyundai presence in TN'
This is the first time ever that the ministry ordered a compulsory recall of Hyundai and Kia vehicles. The automakers need to submit a recall plan to the ministry within 25 days.

Sharapova has accumulated enough points already to enter Wimbledon qualifying but an All England Club sub-committee will meet on 20 June to decide which players will be fast-tracked into the first round proper.

The 2004 champion at SW19 secured her place in Wimbledon qualifying by beating Christina McHale in the second round of the Italian Open earlier this week. Wimbledon donates a large share of its profits to the LTA but the grand slam oversees its own tournament independently of the governing body. Wimbledon's website states wild cards are typically offered "on the basis of past performance at Wimbledon or to increase British interest".

The remaining Main Draw wild card announcements for Birmingham and our other events will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 30-year-old was banned for two years after testing positive for meldonium but had her ban reduced by the Court of Arbitration of Sport.

Maria Sharapova retired from her Italian Open match citing an apparent left thigh injury hours after learning she would not be granted a wild card into the French Open.

Sharapova will take part in the Birmingham based event.
