Releasing dramatic videos of heavy firing on Pakistani posts, the army today said it has carried out punitive fire assaults on these posts near Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera sector to check infiltration.

"As part of our counter-terrorism strategy, punitive fire assault was undertaken across the Line of Control", Maj Gen Ashok Narula, assistant director general in charge of public interface, at the Army headquarters said here.

Claiming that Pakistan Army has been providing support to armed infiltrators, Narula said that the recent actions in Naushera have caused damage to Pakistan army posts. "We fear an uptick in infiltration attempts as the snow melts and passes [on the mountains and valleys] open up". "It was part of the plan to proactively dominate the LoC and counter-terrorism operations to curb infiltration", he added. Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "We salute the valour and sacrifice of Indian Army".
