Brentwood brush fire: Hillside inferno prompts major emergency response in Los Angeles

A plume of smoke from a wildfire burning above Mandeville Canyon Road in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles is seen from the San Fernando Valley, Sunday, May 28, 2017.

To the northeast, a 15-acre fire is burning away from foothill homes in the Lake View Terrace neighborhood and into Angeles National Forest.

The canyon was shut down at Sunset Boulevard to accommodate firefighting operations, LAFD officials said.

Some 115 firefighters were on the scene within 70 minutes and about 160 were there by 3:30 p.m., Stewart said.

No homes are now under mandatory evacuation but some people have left voluntarily, Margaret Stewart with the Los Angeles Fire Department tells KPCC.

Kelly has yet to dress since the first round against Boston, but the 36-year-old forward does have 91 games of playoff experience. The 25-year-old, a scratch at times previously in the playoffs, finished off a Karlsson blast that banged off the post.

By about 1:10 p.m. the blaze had grown from a quarter acre to approximately 6 to 8 acres in size, the agency said. Eventually five homes were cleared, Stewart said.

Firefighters continued to battle a brush fire Sunday that they say burned within 200-feet of homes in Brentwood. Due to high winds in the area, the blaze, later dubbed the Joes Hill Fire, moved out of the yard and started a brush fire north of it. However, no injuries have been reported and an investigation into the incidents is ongoing.

The Getty Center closed early as a precaution. The flames consumed moderate to thick brush in an area just off Mandeville Canyon Road, a dead-end road that snakes up a deep canyon, lined by expensive-view houses.

One family told firefighters they evacuated their home so quickly they left food cooking on a stove. Crews were sent to shut it off.
