British news organizations reported that a van plowed into pedestrians on the bridge in central London late Saturday evening.

"Rapid gunfire" was heard in the London Bridge area as armed police are thought to have shot shot dead two of the men, with a search underway for the third man.

The Daily Mail reports that at least seven people are believed to have been stabbed while eyewitnesses said bodies were "strewn" on the road.

BBC reporter Holly Jones was on the bridge at the time and said a speeding van had veered into pedestrians. Witnesses say the attackers encouraged them to film the scene as they shouted "Allah Akbar" ("God is greatest") before being injured and arrested by police.

People also ran into the restaurant to hide, she said.

London Bridge has been locked down, and the London Transport Authority has also closed and evacuated the London Bridge tube station.
