First look at new Tesla Model Y SUV

Unlike what it did with Model S and X, Tesla will release the simplest versions of the Model 3 first, before eventually offering more options. Tesla's lower-cost sedan, the Model 3, which will be officially announced later this year, will reportedly start around $35,000.

However, the CEO kept the air of mystery intact and mentioned that more information on the project will be revealed at the upcoming reveal of its all-electric semi truck.

Details about the upcoming EV are sparse, but sources claimed that it will not be built on the Model 3 platform. Take wing mirrors, for example: The Guardian reports that "Tesla's new Model Y electric SUV teaser image sparked controversy over its wing mirror-free appearance", which, like, come on.

The Model Y was briefly shown briefly shown at the company's annual shareholder meeting, in a dark photograph hiding its body shape and design features.

Apple Announces HomePod, its Answer to Alexa and Google Home
Microsoft also has announced its own speaker with Samsung's Harman business; it will use Microsoft's Cortana digital assistant. According to Apple , the smart speaker will only start collecting information after the "Hey Siri" voice command is activated.

Part of this decision, to switch from the current platform, was driven by the company's experience building the Model X. Musk is now calling it an over-confident mistake, since Tesla chose to build the Model X from the Model S platform - seeing it an easy manufacturing decision. Musk said Tuesday Tesla may eventually have 10 to 12 gigafactories.

Musk confirmed that the first Model 3 vehicles, Tesla's first mass-market electric cars, will be launched at the end of next month. "We can just reprogram it to make it better with software", he said.

As a result, Tesla will be building the Model Y on an all-new platform, made possible by the fact the future SUV is projected be the brand's biggest seller in the future. Musk said it was "crazy hard" to make cars and that Tesla had learned a lesson from the complexity of previous models.

"Any customer can have a auto painted any color that he wants so long as it is black", Henry Ford once said. While Musk's vehicles may be getting cheaper, Tesla's second assembly plant will nearly certainly be more costly. The front guards and headlights seem to mesh together in a similar way to the Model X, but the bonnet lines and windscreen shape appears very close to the Model 3.
