Sen. John McCain clarifies bumbling statements about Hillary Clinton in Comey hearing

by Dwayne Torres June 11, 2017, 7:51

The 80-year-old Arizona Republican joked that he stayed up late watching an Arizona Diamondbacks game.

During his questioning, which was at times rambling and incoherent, the senator pressed Comey on how the FBI handled the investigations into Clinton and Russian Federation, but he seemed to consider them a singular probe. Comey said he wanted to spur the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel to take over the investigation.

"Matter, investigation - I don't know that that's such a big deal", she told reporters at a briefing".

"I'm a little confused", Comey responded.

The New York Times published a story about the memo, which said Trump had asked Comey to drop the FBI's probe into former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

Senator McCain puzzled many during his questioning of Comey, repeatedly asking the former FBI head how the bureau could have completed its investigation into Hillary Clinton last July when the investigation into the Donald Trump campaign remains ongoing. "This is about a sitting president and why he fired the FBI director in a historic move and was that connected, as he suggested, to the Russians and his office the next day with his desire to undermine the Russia investigation". In a rambling, largely incoherent exchange with Comey, McCain attempted to draw a parallel between the Hillary Clinton email investigation and the Trump Russia investigation. "You're gonna have to help me out here". During his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday, Comey said that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch requested that he call the FBI's look into her use of emails a "matter", rather than an "investigation".

London mayor on Trump tweets: 'I really don't care'
May defended Khan, noting how he has been closely working with her to get the city back on track after a series of deadly attacks. But Mr Khan, who is from Tooting in south London, rejected Mr Trump's proposal for himself to be exempted from the Muslim ban.

"I think the American people have a whole lot of questions", McCain followed up.

In his follow-up statement, McCain said he was trying to ask Comey if he "believes that any of his interactions with the president rise to the level of obstruction of justice".

"You reached that conclusion as far as Secretary Clinton was concerned, but you're not reaching a conclusion as far as this administration is concerned", McCain said. He started off by seemingly condemning Comey's choice not to recommend criminal charges against Clinton.

UPDATE: The Arizona Diamondbacks dodged responsibility Thursday morning.

"This investigation [into Trump's administration] was under way [and] still going when I was sacked".

"I get the sense from Twitter that my line of questioning today went over people's heads".
