Microsoft discounts Xbox One S by $50 ahead of E3 2017

The console price cut was confirmed on the official Xbox Twitter account.

The tech and gaming giant made the announcement on its Twitter channel today, revealing the Xbox One S is getting a $50 discount, at least for the U.S., beginning June 11.

PlayStation maker Sony launched its own super-powered console - the PlayStation 4 Pro - late previous year. For comparison, the base model of Nintendo Switch is priced at $299 (or approx Rs 19,252).

Macron confirms third French victim in London attack
Last night 15 people remained in a critical condition and Australian nurse Kirsty Boden was named as the third fatality. Police and the security agencies are facing questions about whether they missed chances to thwart the attack.

All of this comes just ahead of Microsoft's June 11 E3 briefing, where we're expected to get a look at the price, name and final design of Project Scorpio, which will now sit at the top end of Microsoft's Xbox lineup. At the moment, there's no clarity as to this being a permanent price drop given the gamut of Xbox One S deals available. It could also mean lower than anticipated Xbox Scorpio price point despite Xbox boss Phil Spencer claiming it will sell at a premium. Of course, that new price also lands on the day when we will likely see a reveal for Microsoft's Scorpio price and release date at its E3 2017 press conference.

"We now assume a Project Scorpio price point of $499/€499/£429", said IHS Markit's Piers Harding-Rolls.

Microsoft's big E3 2017 briefing kicks off tomorrow (June 11) at 2pm PT. Word is, the show will run almost 100 minutes, so expect a whole lot of Project Scorpio talk, long gameplay demos, and hopefully a few good surprises.
