United Kingdom defence minister Michael Fallon says government views on Brexit haven't changed

A record number of Britons took German citizenship in 2016 as the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, according to the German Federal Statistics Office.

The office said that many were concerned that the vote will make it more hard for them to live and work in the European Union in future.

German authorities say the number of Britons granted German citizenship quadrupled previous year as Britain voted to leave the European Union, though they were still only a small fraction of newly naturalised Germans.

Brexit Secretary David Davis said British Prime Minister Theresa May was not sobbing over last week's failed election gamble when he met her after the vote, Davis said on Monday. The number is likely to be far greater again this year as it takes several months to obtain a German passport.
