Admin revokes blocked program to protect immigrant parents

A lawsuit filed by Kansas and 25 other states led to the Trump administration's action yesterday to rescind an Obama executive action on illegal immigration, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said today.

The Trump administration announced on Thursday that it is cancelling an Obama-era policy to allow millions of illegal-immigrant parents of children born in the United States to stay in the country.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly revoked an Obama administration memo from 2014 that created the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program, or DAPA, which was meant to protect people living in the United States illegally who have children who are US citizens or legal residents. This rescinded program is known as Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents, or DAPA. "The preservation of DACA is a tribute to the strength of the Dreamer movement". Chris Chmielenski, director of content and activism for anti-immigration group Numbers USA, told CNN while he was happy with the DAPA decision, he wants Trump to also end DACA.

"If confirmed, I would see my role to administer that program well, as it stands", he said. The authorities in the last three weeks have arrested and moved to deport 199 Iraqi immigrants, mostly from the Detroit area after Iraq agreed to accept deportees.

"We've seen DACA eligible youth stalked and sent to detention camps, DACA youth get deported, and DACA youth get their protections revoked because of traffic violations", Codognolla said.

Trump called the program an "unconstitutional executive amnesty" during his campaign, saying that former President Barack Obama "defied federal law and the Constitution" in establishing the program.

Well, it's not gilded faucets and crystal chandeliers, but United States presidents have been visiting the camp for seven decades. Presidents have been going to the refuge about 70 miles from the White House for seven decades, and not always just for a rest.

The immigration policy leaves the clause intact that allows children of undocumented citizens to remain in the United States.

"They chose the fifth anniversary of DACA to do this", Obama administration veteran Cecilia Munoz tweeted shortly after the announcement.

Prior to implementation of DAPA, twenty-six states challenged the policies established in the DAPA memorandum in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Both programs required that participants meet certain conditions, including not having a history of serious crimes.

The Trump DHS did revoke a never-implemented Obama program that would have expanded DACA rights to parents of minors brought into the country illegally.
