Seattle police release tape of pregnant woman's shooting

"She let them in, then she started talking all insane about how the officers weren't going to leave", one officer says on the tape. A person called for help, told the 911 folks that she was experiencing a burglary, or suspected a burglar in her unit, and we see what happened.

#CharleenaLyles was pregnant, called the police to report a burglary.

The department released an audio tape of Sunday's encounter in which officers can be heard shouting, "Get back!"

Police confirmed Lyles' children were inside the housing at the time of the shooting, and are now being cared for by family. Had she been wealthy, white, and famous - or any combination of those - I'm sure the police would've been much more careful and Lyles would've ultimately ended up in a hospital somewhere, receiving the treatment she so desperately needed.

Relatives told The Seattle Times that the woman was pregnant and had mental health issues.

Monday, authorities released the audio recording, which came from a patrol car's dashboard-mounted camera. He said there will be a thorough investigation following Lyles's death.

The incident escalated further, resulting in the police officers fatally shooting Lyles.

A BuzzFeed report from January examined 62 cases from 2008 to 2016 in which video evidence contradicted the official accounts police officers gave to describe incidents involving use of force, some resulting in the deaths of the subjects stopped by officials. During that visit, the officers said, the woman brandished a pair of scissors. The officer responds that she has an officer-safety precaution on file.

Monika Williams, Charleena's sister said that her late sister was "tiny" in build and had "mental health problems".

For the next two minutes, officers talked to Lyles about the reported breakin and began taking inventory of the missing items.

According to the Seattle Times, 30-year-old Charleena Lyles called police on June 18 to report a burglary.

Cities: Skylines has been available on PC for a while now, and the game got a release on Xbox One earlier this year. Paradox Interactive's Cities: Skylines is finally coming to PS4 on August 15.

"She was asking them for help with her domestic violence and they wasn't giving her none". Police then asks her if she knew who it might have been, and they ask for her name.

On that day, she finally dropped the shears after two officers drew their guns and repeatedly asked her to do so.

The transcript of a Seattle Police recording of the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman by officers shows that one of them said "get back" and "Tase her" and the other officer replied: "I don't have a Taser".

In a press release, the Seattle Police Department said the two officers involved are now not on duty. They were taken into protective custody.

Family members told the paper that the woman was several months pregnant and had been struggling with mental-health issues for about a year, according to The Seattle Times. At that time, her other three children where at home.

Lyles lived in Brettler Family Place, a complex of apartments for formerly homeless people operated by Solid Ground, a Seattle-based nonprofit.

The video from the apartment hallway has no audio, but shows the officers entering the apartment.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray called the incident a "tragedy for all involved" and vowed there would be a full investigation into the matter in a statement. "This will be fully investigated", Murray said.

Recently, a federal court-appointed monitor found encouraging signs that the department had made significant progress in its reform programs.

Under the agreement with the Justice Department, Seattle police adopted a new policy dictating that uses of force by officers must be reasonable, necessary and proportional to the threat or urgency of the situation.
