Still no proof of collusion with Russians, says Donald Trump

However, it is likely that he was tweeting about Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, or Mueller who is examining whether the president obstructed justice by firing ex-FBI Director James Comey last month amid the ongoing Russian Federation investigation.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed he is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for firing ousted Director James Comey.

President Donald Trump confirmed Friday he was under investigation and appeared to challenge the credibility of a senior Justice Department official, in a tweet that seemed to encapsulate his frustration with the ongoing focus on Russia's involvement in the 2016 election.

It wasn't immediately clear to whom Trump was referring to in his comment "the man who told me to fire" Comey. His tweet about a "WITCH HUNT" conducted by "bad" people is just a Trumpian version of what appears to be the official White House line - that this is somehow a partisan attempt to delegitimize the Trump presidency.

He appeared to be referring to Rod Rosenstein, deputy attorney general who is now leading the probe.

According to Comey, Trump was referring to the FBI's investigation into Mike Flynn, who was sacked himself as national security adviser months earlier for allegedly lying to White House officials about his post-election contacts with Russian operatives.

Heaggan-Brown's attorneys argued that he acted in self-defense and was forced to make a quick decision about whether to shoot. After the second shot, Smith's arms and legs are still moving and he appears to bring his left hand toward his waistband.

His time under Bush, Obama and then Trump made him the longest-serving USA attorney in the nation's history when he was confirmed to his current role under Sessions.

Mueller is the person Rosenstein appointed to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. Rosenstein told the Senate on May 17 that he knew Comey would be fired before he wrote the memo. Recent news reports have suggested Trump sought all three officials' help in pressuring FBI Director James Comey to drop his investigation into former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn.

President Donald Trump says it's "sad" that seven months of investigations and hearings into possible links between his campaign and Russian Federation have been fruitless. But Trump has implicated himself in the matter by saying he would have fired Comey regardless of the recommendation from Rosenstein - to ease pressure from the Russian Federation probe. The order also demands that records be kept on any foreign travel by members of Trump's transition team and presidential campaign.

Moscow has denied any interference and the White House has denied any collusion.

The furious early morning barrage of tweets - his second in as many days - came as the special counsel investigating Russia's influence over his election pieced together a high-caliber legal team and readied to begin interviews. Trump fired Comey in May. "Nice", Trump wrote in his first tweet.

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that investigators were looking into possible obstruction of justice.
