Captain (R) Safdar arrives at FJA to record his statement before JIT

Captain (r) Safdar on Saturday reportedly said while responding to Joint Investigation Team's (JIT) questions that he views the Panama probe as a modern form of 58 (2b) - the constitutional article invoked to dissolve assemblies, Daily Times Monitoring Desk has learnt.

Members of PML (N) youth wing were present outside the judicial academy in Islamabad to express their solidarity with Captain Safdar.

He said the JIT's history is in front of everyone; it is distracting the public from the real issues.

A day earlier Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Rehman Malik had appeared before the JIT and provided it details of the inquiry he had carried out into the allegations of money laundering by the Sharif family in 1990s.

The JIT team is headed by Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director Wajid Zia, and includes members from Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, SECP, State Bank of Pakistan and NAB.

"The Panama case is not only against Nawaz Sharif but also against a prime minister who made the country a nuclear power", he said.

He also called upon Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan to beware of conspiracies against the country and distance from such moves and tactics.

The JIT - formed on May 6 - was given 60 days to complete its probe into the Sharif family's global financial dealings and submit its report to the Supreme Court's special implementation bench overseeing its proceedings.
