The Illini finished the 2017 season ranked No. 13 in the ACHA Division I, playing in the highly-competitive Central States Collegiate Hockey League, where all five teams in the league finished the season ranked.

"The forward group is real strong", New Jersey general manager Ray Shero said.

Trade day didn't stop on draft night for the Blackhawks.

In the third round with the 70th pick, the Blackhawks drafted forward Andrei Altybarmakyan, who is from Russian Federation, 5-10, 183 pounds and a left-handed shot.

The Chicago Blackhawks selected Evan Barratt in the third round (90th overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

The Blackhawks took a trade swap and moved up a few spots to select Tim Soderlund with the 112 overall pick in the fourth round.

Heaggan-Brown's attorneys argued that he acted in self-defense and was forced to make a quick decision about whether to shoot. After the second shot, Smith's arms and legs are still moving and he appears to bring his left hand toward his waistband.

The St. Louis Blues sent forward Jori Lehtera and two draft picks to Philadelphia for Brayden Schenn, and also traded physical forward Ryan Reaves to the Stanley Cup champion Penguins.

"It's an unbelievable feeling, of course, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane calling my name".

Jokiharju, 18, paced all WHL rookie defensemen with 48 points (9G, 39A) and four power-play goals in 71 regular-season games this past season.

Chicago Blackhawks veteran Marian Hossa will not play during the 2017-18 National Hockey League season due to a skin condition he suffers from and the side effects of the medication he takes to treat it. He spent the previous two seasons in the Swiss pro league, where he was coached by current Ottawa Senators coach Guy Boucher. New Jersey is coming off its worst season in almost three decades, finishing with a 28-40-14 record.

"I love hockey", he said.

Attendees at the press conference are to include NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, USA Hockey's Mathieu Schneider, Terry Pegula, Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman and Blackhawks president John McDonough, according to the NHL source. NY got the No. 7 pick in a trade with Arizona and selected center Lias Andersson, whose father Niklas played in the league.
