Pregnant mom says she fatally shot boyfriend in YouTube stunt gone wrong

A 22-year-old is dead after he allegedly instructed his pregnant girlfriend to shoot him for a stunt on their YouTube channel.

Police say she shot Ruiz with a.50-caliber handgun from about a foot away, but the book (a hardcover encyclopedia, per the Minneapolis Star Tribune) did not stop the bullet, which entered his chest.

After the Norman County Sheriff's Office got a report of a person who had been shot around, Pedro Ruiz was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Perez tweeted a message Monday night, presumably shortly before they filmed the stunt, telling followers, "Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most risky videos ever. I wish he would've just done another prank", said Claudia Ruiz, the victim's aunt.

Celebrity: The couple hoped that the stunt would make them YouTube celebrities.

"He told me he had an idea. It shouldn't have happened at all", said Claudia Ruiz, Pedro's aunt. "It was just a prank gone wrong", she was quoted by the Twin Cities Pioneer Press as saying.

Perez, who is seven months pregnant with their second child, is charged with second-degree manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Family members say it was a prank gone wrong and say the couple's 3-year-old daughter watched the shooting. The couple had apparently tested the stunt before attempting it on video. "I wish he would've just done another prank".

In Facebook comments roughly one hour before Ruiz was killed, Perez wrote, "We are in the process of making Pedro a YouTube channel oh man is it going to be sweet!" She pointed out two GoPro cameras that had been set up - one on the back of a auto and one on a ladder.

Perez will make her first court appearance Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
