Chestnut sets record, Sudo retains belt in Nathan's hot dog victories

Joey Chestnut wanted 80 hot dogs, but 72 was more than enough to win his 10th Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest title.

Chestnut was the reigning champion and favorite heading into the 10-minute race, which attracts the world's hungriest competitive eaters at New York's Coney Island.

On the men's side, Joey Chestnut came in aiming to top last year's winning total of a monster 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes and already with nine mustard belts, under his belt.

The scenes it generates are not recommended for sensitive stomachs: to facilitate chewing, the 18 finalists dip their buns in the water and push the hot dogs in the mouth with fingers to the last crumb, raising heads to help the drop.

Chestnut beat his own record to log a 10th win.

She was well behind the 2017 women's champion, Miki Sudo, who polished off 41 hot dogs. Two-hundred and twenty years later, Will Smith went and saved the planet from alien destruction in "Independence Day", and 21 years after that, Joey "Jaws" Chestnut reached unprecedented territory on the world's most prestigious gluttonous stage.

Britain on standby for last-minute Donald Trump visit
THE WHITE House has dismissed the rumour Donald Trump is planning on making a surprise visit to Britain this month. "We expect him to go to his golf course".

Chestnut was a man of few words following his victory, but said he was feeling good despite the six dozen franks sitting in his tummy.

Thousands of people — many wearing hot-dog-shaped hats — gathered on Coney Island's famed boardwalk for the contest.

That's a new personal best, and her fourth Nathan's title in a row.

Sudo bested Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, who holds the record of 45 franks. "And because of that fact, it will be hard for him to ever overtake Kobayashi as the GOAT hot dog eater".

Takeru Kobayashi isn't the big name he used to be, as he hasn't competed since 2009 due to a refusal to sign an exclusive deal with Major League Eating.

"They're a very warm, friendly group", she said of her fellow entrants in the 101-year-old contest.
