AHMEDABAD: Several areas in Gujarat remained cut off following heavy rains in the city.

Authorities found the bodies in two villages in hard-hit Banaskantha district, Gujarat, as floodwaters receded, said assistant superintendent of police Aksharaj Makwana.

Road connectivity too has also been cut off at many places due to waterlogging and rain induced damage.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, has stationed himself in state flood control room to supervise the operations. As many as 11,000 people were evacuated exclusively from Banaskantha district alone, NDTV reported.

By Tuesday, over 20 highways going through Gujarat got waterlogged, bringing transportation to a standstill in the state. Two choppers, four NDRF teams and two BSF teams and as many Army columns have been deployed in the adjoining Patan district that was also ravaged by floods. Narmada Mahotsav and Swagat Online program scheduled on tomorrow also cancelled due to heavy rain and flood.

The state, meanwhile, continued to see relatively milder amount of rains on Wednesday, with an average rain of seasonal rains reaching 555.2 mm or 68.52%.

There is an inter-ministerial team in Assam for the ground zero assessment of the flood situation but the central government has failed to provide the required support or assistance to the state.
