Dolphins, Jay Cutler agree to 1-year deal

The Miami Dolphins have signed briefly retired former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler to a one-year, $10 million deal after their starting QB, Ryan Tannehill, suffered a likely season-ending knee injury.

Cutler had agreed to join the Fox broadcasting team, raising hopes of the delicious things that an unfettered Cutler might say.

The team has to have their fingers crossed that Cutler, who is very familiar with coach Gase's offense, is able to bridge the gap.

"He's trying to figure out everything", Gase said. I mean, you don't expect this to happen.

Cutler, who was a Pro Bowler for the Broncos in 2008, was immediately tied to Gase and the Dolphins after news of Tannehill's injury broke. Cutler continued to challenge defenses with 7.6 yards per attempt, but Gase allowed the veteran quarterback to significantly cut down on his interceptions.

He has been a model champion, a model husband, a model father, a teammate, leader, and I aspire to be more like that man. Fighters pulling out at the last time, good matchups not delivering and controversial decisions dominated the headlines.

Cutler spent eight seasons in Chicago but played in just five games for the Bears last season, posting a 1-4 record and 78.1 passer rating.

Tannehill, who missed the final four games of last season with two sprained ligaments in his left knee, reinjured it a week into training camp Thursday.

With this injury, Tannehill and Dolphins are still debating if surgery is the best option as if Tannehill does chose to have surgery he will be out for the entire season. Backup Matt Moore doesn't have this kind of arm and neither does starter Ryan Tannehill for that matter. I don't think he looked at our situation.

Cutler still has not given the Dolphins an outright "no", the sources said, and the team does have some willingness to remain somewhat patient, given how much of an unexpected situation this has become to all involved. Though that sentiment may change if Tannehill indeed needs surgery, Cutler is still intending to begin his broadcasting career in 2017.

$5 million of that amount is Cutler's base salary, which would indicate that he comes in as Miami's new starting quarterback.
