No service at Bank as employees go on strike

As many as 80,000 employees of various banks have joined the strike nationwide strike to protest against the government's proposed move to merge public sector banks among other demands.

Bank Strike: The United Forum of Banking Unions (UFBU) declared a national strike on all the banking union firms on August 22nd. Businesspersons and other traders also had to return disappointed as the exchange of cheques and other transactions could not be done.

Public sector banks now control 75 percent of the total banking business. The bank unions have already announced about the strike.Bank employees participated in the dharna staged at the SBI office in Gandhi Nagar on Tuesday.

AIBOC General Secretary D T Franco demanded that the government should immediately raise gratuity limit for bank employees to Rs 20 lakh.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) is an umbrella body of nine unions, including All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC), All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW).
