Chiefs' Spencer Ware likely needs season-ending surgery for torn PCL

One of those season-ending injuries has afflicted Kansas City Chiefs running back Spencer Ware, leaving the team without their projected starter in the backfield.

On Sunday morning, BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com reported the devastating news from the team's head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder.

"With that ligament, often times with rehab you can play", Burkholder said, per ESPN's Adam Teicher. He will receive another opinion but the injury is thought to be season ending.

Ware suffered the injury Friday during Kansas City's Week 3 preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Navy Chief Makes Rare Move After Another Collision
The announcement comes as the Navy continues to probe Monday's catastrophic collision between the USS John S. Seven sailors died in June when the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship hit each other in waters off Japan.

Rookie running back Kareem Hunt is the likely candidate to fill in for Ware during his absence.

Ware led Kansas City in rushing last season with 921 yards.

Andy Reid said Saturday that the third-round draft pick out of Toledo will handle the bulk of the carries while Ware is injured.

With fellow running back Jamaal Charles, who is now a member of the rival Denver Broncos, officially out of the picture, Ware was originally slated to serve as the featured back in the Chiefs' backfield in 2017.
