Tottenham sign Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth on long-term contract

Tottenham have completed the signing of young Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The contract runs until 2022, with the fee for the youngster believed to be around nine million pounds.

The 19-year-old caught the eye of several top European clubs, including Spurs, after impressing for the Argentinean team at the under-20 World Cup earlier in the summer.

Foyth is Spurs' second major transfer of the window following their club-record signing of Ajax's Davinson Sanchez, while back-up goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga has also joined.

Spurs have been chasing after the defender all transfer window but had their initial bids rejected after not reaching Estudiantes' asking price.

Navy Chief Makes Rare Move After Another Collision
The announcement comes as the Navy continues to probe Monday's catastrophic collision between the USS John S. Seven sailors died in June when the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship hit each other in waters off Japan.

The Argentina Under-20 global had been expected to sign for Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer but confirmed in a recent interview with La Plata daily newspaper El Dia he had decided on Tottenham - largely thanks to the intervention of his compatriot Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino has bagged the Argentina Under-21 global, 19, from his home country. I really like the league, I'm focused and now I'm going to try to make the most of it.

"I believe my style of play is about bringing the ball out and keeping it on the floor".

Before making the move Foyth commented that he was enticed by Tottenham being "a club that bets on the young" and so gives him a "chance to play". "But I don't want to think about that now, but to settle at Tottenham", Foyth added.
