Trump to seize populist mantle for pitching messy tax overhaul - Source Politico

The President said during his remarks that he is pushing for tax relief for middle-class families, "so they can keep more of their hard-earned paychecks".

In his bid to restore US competitiveness in the global economy, President Donald Trump announced his proposals for tax reform before a crowd in Springfield, Missouri this week, arguing that the American people (and particularly American businesses) are overtaxed.

Missouri's state and federal representatives in attendance Wednesday agreed with Trump's proposals for tax reform, especially one who has been working on those ideas for a while.

The president has named Ireland as one of America's worldwide competitors, as he outlined plans for tax reforms.

"We have gone from a tax rate that is lower than our economic competitors, to one that is more than 60% higher".

"Ideally, and I say this to our Secretary of the Treasury, we would like to bring our business tax rate down to 15 percent", Trump said.

"It's time to give American workers the pay raise that they've been looking for many, many years", he said.

Otherwise, if obstructing the Trump agenda is the way the GOP Congress wants to run its 2018 re-election, so be it.

"I don't want to be disappointed by Congress, do you understand me?"

Trump has said the changes will jumpstart economic growth and make the system more fair for regular families.

Donald Trump once said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and his supporters would still love him.

The Democratic National Committee issued a statement saying tax plans put forth by Trump and Republicans in the past would have benefited the "super-rich and corporations over hardworking Americans".

"We are relying on and anticipating a very busy September at the White House".

However, he believes the tax cut plan is a "50-50 proposition" due to the potential lack of collaboration from the democrats' side. He is the first President in four decades to withhold them from the public. Claire McCaskill to get behind his new introduced tax reform.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed Thursday that the average American a year ago paid more in taxes than he or she did on food or clothing. He said, "they've been the forgotten people, but they're not forgotten anymore, I'll tell you that", and said how lowering taxes for the middle class will increase their spending.

"But it would make us highly competitive".

There actually is no Trump tax plan.

Congressman Richard Neal, D-Springfield, however, questioned Trump's pledge to help middle class Americans, as well as his commitment to bipartisanship.

They also would pare repatriation taxes so companies can "return trillions and trillions of dollars to our economy".
