Trump Jr. says nothing came of 2016 meeting with Russians

Democrats have pointed to the Trump Tower meeting to argue collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election.

"We look forward to a professional and productive meeting and appreciate the opportunity to assist the committee", Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for Trump Jr., said on September 6. During the hearing, which will be private, President Trump's eldest son is expected to answer senators' questions about his meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya - a Kremlin-connected lawyer who claimed to be an emissary for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Senate panel's leaders, Sens. Indeed, emails about the meeting made it quite clear that Moscow wanted to help Trump, and Trump Jr. welcomed the assistance.

Here's what you need to know about the Senate investigators' interview with the president's eldest son - and what it could mean for the Russian Federation investigations going forward.

Special counsel Robert Mueller and the House and Senate Intelligence committees also are investigating that meeting, which was also attended by President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and then-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.

Thursday's statement underlines the fact that his initial statement, which was reportedly dictated by the president in July, was misleading and false.

"To the extent they had information concerning the fitness, character or qualifications of a presidential candidate, I believed that I should at least hear them out", Trump told the committee, according to a transcript obtained by The New York Times.

Congressional Democrats back Harvey aid with 3-mo. debt limit increase
If not, the government would be unable to borrow more money or pay its bills, including its debt payments. Senate Republicans want to link Harvey aid to debt limit increase into 2019 after the midterm elections.

"It seems like there's not a week that doesn't go by that another undisclosed meeting doesn't come up or another relationship", Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, the top intelligence committee Democrat, said in an interview as lawmakers returned to Washington. On this date, Trump Jr. receives an email from Goldstone, who wrote that Emin Agalarov-a Russian pop star whose father, Aras, worked with Donald Trump to bring the Miss Universe pageant to Moscow in 2013-had asked him to reach out.

Trump Jr entered the Capitol under cover and did not speak with reporters. Emails released by the younger Trump show a family acquaintance set up the meeting and offered the information as part of "Russia and its government's support" for the Trump campaign.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal says on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" he wants to know more, adding that it is "equally important" to learn what happened afterward.

The Senate intelligence committee has been the main panel in the chamber looking into the Russian Federation matter, though the judiciary committee under GOP Chairman Chuck Grassley has intensified its focus in recent months.

Senate aides also could pursue other possible connections that the president's family had with Russian Federation.

The letter was signed by the committee chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., who stepped back from the Russian Federation investigation this year after he was criticized for being too close to the White House.

Trump Jr. met with the committee for a closed door interview where he was questioned about a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting.
