Authorities call Antioch church usher 'hero' for confronting gunman

A 25-year-old man, identified by police as Emmanuel Kidega Samson, pulled into the parking lot in a sport utility vehicle, left the vehicle running, fatally shot a woman, later identified by police as 39-year-old Melanie Smith, outside the church building.

The post thanked the community for its support and asked for continued prayers. "Whatever you say, goes", another read.

Engle's grandmother said Sunday afternoon that she was proud of her grandson, the Tennessean reported.

25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson is originally from Khartoum, Sudan and legally immigrated to the United States in the 1990s. Churchgoers said Samson used to attend Burnette Chapel Church of Christ more than a year ago, but officials are still piecing together what motivated the suspect to carry out this deadly rampage.

"Please pray for the shooter, the shooter's family and friends", Engle said in his statement, according to CNN.

Police are still determining Samson's motive.

The suspect is believed to have been there for at least several minutes before church service let out, according to police.

"There was a significant struggle between the two", said Don Aaron, Metropolitan Nashville police spokesman.

"He was shooting, and then he's standing in the pulpit and he start shooting more", Rosa said.

North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un. "Donald Trump mocked Kim as a "Rocket Man" on a" suicide mission" at the UN General Assembly. Beijing's status as the North's main trading partner makes its cooperation critical to the success of economic sanctions.

"It would appear he was not expecting a fearless individual like the church usher to initiate the struggle and confrontation", Mr Aaron said.

Late Sunday, the Civil Rights division of the FBI's Memphis field office announced it was opening an investigation into the shooting.

A 39 year old churchgoer was fatally shot in the auto park of the church which is located ten miles south east of downtown Nashville.

The vigil will be held at Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, which is located at 3890 Pin Hook Road, beginning at 7 p.m.

The final post said, "Everything you've ever doubted or made to be believe as false, is real & vice versa". One gunshot victim and the man who was pistol-whipped were taken to Skyline Medical Center for treatment.

Tennessean.com are reporting that police received calls describing multiple shots fired at around 11.15am local time.

Samson, who was wearing a neoprene half-mask, then entered the church and began to shoot "indiscriminately", wounding six people who were later treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
