World's former heaviest woman passes away in Abu Dhabi

She was under the supervision of the team of 20 doctors from different specialities who put her on a special liquid diet to reduce her weight enough for bariatric surgery.

Atti arrived at Burjeel Hospital from India in May, after she was airlifted from her home with the aid of a crane to undergo a weight loss procedure. She succumbed to death just weeks after her 37th birthday. Doctors had planned to treat Eman's acute issues - including her urinary tract infection, bedsores, rehabilitation, speech therapy - and provide her with psychological support within three months, as part of the first phase. Let me tell you because of obesity, the weight of the Eman was 500 kg, thats why she was said to be the world's heaviest woman.

Eman was treated by Lakdawala and a team of around 15 doctors from various disciplines since she was brought to Mumbai from Alexandria on 11 February this year. Days before she left for the Abu Dhabi hospital, she had weighed in at 176 kg.in the presence of this reporter. The statement released by Burjeel Hospital, however, doesn't dwell into the specifics of Eman's passing away.

Shaimaa had alleged that the doctors at Saifee Hospital, made "false claims" about Emans recovery and weight loss.

"I still love India and its kind people, but not Dr Muffazal Lakdawala (Eman's doctor) and Saifee".

Before treatment, her family said she had been unable to leave the house for 25 years.

The Burjeel hospital had offered to take care of her medical conditions and treatment after a bitter spat broke out between Eman's sister Shaima Selim and the Saifee Hospital management in May.

Her sister started a campaign online to help raise awareness about her plight.
