Jokowi Hand-Delivers IDR7.1 Billion for Mount Agung's Evacuees

The alert status of Agung was raised to the highest level on Friday following a dramatic increase in seismic activity.

"This number of seismicity is an unprecedented seismic observation at Agung volcano ever recorded by our seismic networks", the Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation said in a statement.

Emeritus Professor Richard John Arculus from the Australian National University wrote that although infrequent, eruptions of Mount Agung have been among the largest of the past 100 years of global volcanic activity.

Arrivals at the Denpasar global airport remain stable at about 50,000 to 60,000 per day.

Data has showed that Mount Agung, the highest point of the island, experienced 844 volcanic earthquakes on Monday alone, and 300-400 quakes by midday on Tuesday, he said.

The mountain, 72 kilometres to the northeast of the tourist hotspot of Kuta, is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia.

Evacuees, hopeful that Mount Agung doesn't erupt.

The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management declared a 12-kilometer exclusion zone around the volcano.

As for Tatum, who plays a Statesman - an American counterpart to the Kingsmen - he just had fun with the accent and the language. Others have questioned the return of Firth - whose character was apparently killed in the first film.

"Even with all the signs and calculation we have today no one can tell when is the eruption will occur", said Surono, an expert of volcanology and former head of Indonesia Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center.

But Spanish tourist Jordi Portalo, 23, who is visiting the beaches in the Nusa Dua area, said he was unperturbed by the rumbling volcano.

"No eruption. That is my prayer", she said.

"We can meet their daily needs for the next few days", he said.

Singapore Airlines and its short-haul arm SilkAir said customers travelling to Bali until October 2 could rebook or request a refund, while AirAsia said flights were operating normally.

In the event of an eruption and ash clouds that could disrupt air travel, authorities have made preparations for flights to be diverted to seven regional airports, including on Java and Lombok islands.

Many Indonesians live near volcanoes because lava flows can make the surrounding soil and land fertile for farming.

"Holidaymakers are advised to follow the advice of local authorities, to avoid the area around the volcano and to keep in contact with their airline or holiday company".
