Twitter's Testimony on Russian-Linked Accounts 'Inadequate on Every Level'

The company said all of those accounts had either previously been suspended or were immediately after they were found.

NY [U.S.A.], September 29: Twitter has informed the United States Congress that it found and took an action against as many as 200 accounts, after they were determined to be linked to Russian Federation and sought to interfere in the American politics.

This development comes more than a month after Facebook revealed it found 450 profiles linked to Russian Federation that had spent roughly $100,000 on 3,000 ads.

This is the next step in the committee's investigation into social media platforms.

Using the approximately 450 accounts that Facebook shared as part of its own review, Twitter says it found 201 corresponding accounts on its own service.

"Twitter has just unveiled horrendous information in Congress - that we've been spending money on our advertising campaigns, just like every media organization in the world", the group, formerly known as Russia Today, said in a statement.

The report comes as multiple investigations into Russian influence in the 2016 election have zeroed in on social media websites, particularly Facebook and Twitter, as significant platforms for foreign operatives to target individual voters within the U.S.

The charges are so serious that a congressional committee in the U.S. is investigation whether Russian Federation influenced the outcome in the USA presidential polls and in what way.

The vigil will be held at Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, which is located at 3890 Pin Hook Road, beginning at 7 p.m. Tennessean.com are reporting that police received calls describing multiple shots fired at around 11.15am local time.

There were three accounts from Russia Today promoted 1,823 tweets that were potentially aimed at the United States market.

"This is an ongoing process and we will continue to collaborate with investigators", the company said in a statement.

It also found another 179 related accounts and blocked those after determining they broke the site's rules.

Warner said the platform needs to do a lot more in this regard, given that Twitter's presentation hardly answers the types of questions that the Senate committee has asked, notes the Financial Times.

Warner told reporters that he thought Twitter's response was "inadequate", noting that the company's findings came from accounts Facebook identified.

The company said that, over the coming months, it will be introducing new ways to detect malicious activity.

House Intelligence Committee Representatives Mike Conaway and Adam Schiff leading the Russia probe announced on Wednesday that they had called for representatives of the firms themselves to testify on the issue of Russian manipulation.
