Something Doesn't Quite Add Up With ISIS Claim Of Las Vegas Shooting

"As this event unfolds, we have determined, to this point, no connection with an worldwide terrorist group", said Special Agent Aaron Rouse, the top administrator of the Las Vegas FBI division, during an October 2 press conference.

As The Atlantic reports: "A false claim of credit in Las Vegas will effectively shred the Islamic State's news agency's credibility".

Another statement said: "The Las Vegas attacker converted to Islam a few months ago".

Another Oct. 2 communication claims that Paddock was acting under the requests of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi for the goal of "targeting the coalition governments".

Still without providing any evidence, ISIS once again-for a fourth time-claimed it was responsible for the mass murder that occurred in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old retired accountant, killed 58 people and injured more than 500 in a mass casualty shooting of concertgoers at the Route 91 Festival late Sunday from the 32nd floor of Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino before killing himself.

US officials say Paddock, a consummate gambler, bought 33 weapons in the past year.

His brother, Eric Paddock, has also said that the killer had "no political affiliation, no religious affiliation, as far as we know".

Another Executive Down: Equifax CEO Richard Smith
The fact of the data breach isn't the only controversy swirling around Equifax , as NPR's Alina Selyukh has noted . Smith will receive his $18.4 million pension and retirement benefits upon leaving, an Equifax spokesperson said.

Trump called the shooter "a sick man, a demented man", in an address from the White House in reaction to the attack on Monday, and did not mention ISIS or radical Islamism. It turned out to be a botched robbery by a heavily indebted Filipino gambling addict.

Isis was also linked to a vehicle and knife attack in Edmonton, Canada, where a police officer found a flag used by the group in the perpetrator's auto.

The terrorist group published at least one English video on October 3 about the Las Vegas attack.

He urged followers to "intensify one attack after another against the infidels", following a spike in global terror attacks.

"The attack on Las Vegas is a soldier of the Islamic state and the operation was carried out in response to appeals targeting coalition countries", states one of the communications, translated from Arabic, which ISIS sent out on October 2.

Gerges said the Las Vegas attack claim illustrates the extremely hard position ISIS faces at home and its lack of strategic coordination.

For one, such a claim guarantees relevance for ISIS by keeping it in the news, terrorism expert Bruce Hoffman told Business Insider.
