Trump Won't Get Royal Welcome During UK Visit

President Trump was expected to embark on a full state visit in early 2018 after Prime Minister Theresa May officially invited the U.S. leader shortly after his victory in November 2016.

Plans now being worked up would see Mr Trump visit London early next year, meeting with British counterparts and the new United States ambassador Woody Johnson.

When diplomats are visiting as part of a state visit, they typically stay at Buckingham Palace.

Trump will not stay at Buckingham Palace with the Queen and will likely sleep at the residence of recently-appointed USA ambassador Woody Johnson, The Evening Standard reported.

A source close to Sadiq Khan confirmed to HuffPost UK that the Mayor of London, who led criticism of the State Visit invitation, "would not object" to a working visit.

The Foreign Office said a State Visit, which is seen by MPs as being on indefinite hold, would go ahead at some stage.

Trump's working visit will focus on global security discussions, according to the Evening Standard.

Downing Street insisted it was unaware of any change of plans, however, and officials said the intention was for Mr Trump to stay with the Queen.

There was also a public backlash, with nearly two million people signing a petition saying the USA president's "well documented misogyny and vulgarity" disqualified him from an audience with the Queen.

However a White House spokesperson denied the topic had been discussed. The offer had been extended, accepted by Mr Trump, and no dates had been arranged. This was still the position on Wednesday.

Broadcasting from New York, Nigel said: "I do not accept the view and someone's got to come on to convince me, I don't accept the view that we shouldn't have him in this country and talk about the really important things that matter to both of us".
