Facebook COO won't reveal details of company's Russian Federation probe

A top Facebook executive says ads linked to Russian Federation trying to influence the US presidential election should "absolutely" be released to the public, along with information on whom the ads were targeting.

The question of overlap is of potential significance for special counsel Robert Mueller and congressional investigators as they look for evidence of collusion between the Russians and the Trump campaign.

Rep. Adam Schiff, the panel's top Democrat, added that lawmakers have "asked for Facebook's help to help scrub any personally identifiable information, but it's our hope that when they conclude, then we can release them publicly".

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg says she wished Facebook had sooner discovered that Russians had bought ad campaigns on the site with the intention of influencing the USA site.

"We know we have a responsibility to prevent everything we can from this happening on our platforms. and so we told Congress and the Intelligence committees that when they are ready to release the ads, we are ready to help them", she said.

The Sandberg discussion is part of a growing feeling in the CBC that lawmakers need to draw the line with technology companies who they say are neglecting matters that hurt people of color on their platforms and within their companies.

Without offering specifics, Sandberg said that "things happened on our platform in this election that should not have happened - especially, and very troubling, [sic] foreign interference in a democratic election".

Sandberg was also asked about female leadership in the workplace, to which she said, "The world is still run by men".

Who Is Lauren Sivan? Harvey Weinstein Allegedly Masturbated In Front Of Reporter
Sivan noted to HuffPost that Weinstein's vehicle was "stocked full of cases of Diet Coke", which she said she found to be odd. She reportedly told her friend accompanying her that evening to come and check up on her if she was not back in 10 minutes.

Sandberg is meeting with elected officials in Washington this week ahead of a House hearing at which executives from Facebook, Twitter and Google are expected to testify.

Facebook, along with Twitter and Google, will next month testify before the House and Senate intelligence committees about Russian Federation meddling in the presidential election.

United States lawmakers had begun calling for regulations. Facebook, she said, does owe America an apology.

"We don't want this kind of foreign interference" on Facebook, Sandberg said.

Still, Sandberg said it was important to protect "free expression" on Facebook. Twitter took down the video, saying a remark Blackburn made about opposing abortion was inflammatory.

Citing a person familiar with the matter, Reuters reports that Russian operatives invested tens of thousands of dollars on ads on Gmail, YouTube and Google Search products.

"When these bad actors are trying to cause harm, they don't just go on our platform - they go on others", Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg told Axios on Thursday.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is also holding an open hearing with the three companies that day.
