'Heavy rain expected': Met Éireann issues a Status Yellow warning

Weather warnings have been issued for this weekend, sparking fears Storm Brian will batter the United Kingdom with 70mph gales and severe rainfall.

Heavy rain and gusts of 50mph are expected across southern England and the west of Wales on Saturday, with winds reaching speeds of up to 70mph in exposed areas.

"Those wind speeds can cause impacts to transport and power supplies, and the potential for unsafe waves also brings risks to coastal routes and communities, as well as the potential for flooding of homes".

Classified by Met Éireann as a storm earlier on Thursday (19 October), its affects are predicted to be felt all across the United Kingdom with strong winds forecast for Wales, north-west England and most of southern England on the first day of many pupils' half-term holidays.

The country yet again looks like it will be battered by high winds over the coming days ahead as storm Brian is set to reach Irish shores by Friday.

A MS school named after Confederate President Jefferson Davis will have a new name starting next year - Barack Obama Magnet IB. The name change will take effect during the 2018-19 school year at the school, the district said in a statement to WJTV.

Some transport disruption is likely across the warning area, with delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

The storm is forming over the Atlantic on Thursday and will arrive on the west coast of Ireland on Friday night as the nation recovers from the affects of Hurricane Ophelia. It has warned of some transport disruption and short term loss of power and other services is also possible. At the moment, we don't expect the same level of impacts for the UK.

STORM Brian is expected to batter the United Kingdom coast days after Ophelia wreaked destruction.

Gusts of up to 50mph are expected to bring big waves off our coast too and we're told it could be particularly risky around high tide.

"We're going to have discussions with Met Éireann, the company for the Republic of Ireland, and we will made a decision on whether to name the storm". Thousands of people were also left without water and power.
