Arrest made in death of Ashanti Billie, family says

A retired Navy veteran was arrested Wednesday in the kidnapping of a 19-year-old Maryland woman. Video showed her arriving to work September 18 at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek Fort-Story, the last place she was ever seen, according to WAVY-TV.

Days later, the affidavit says Billie's body was found 300 yards away from Brown's childhood home on Grier's Grove Road in Charlotte.

Court documents say Brown served 21 years in the Navy and was a construction worker. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle like Billie's parked at various locations in Charlotte near where the body was eventually found-more than 300 miles away from where she went missing.

Eric Brown, charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of Ashanti Billie. Her auto was seen leaving the base a short time later but it was unclear if Billie was inside.

Billie's coworkers told officials that Brown visited the Blimpie's nearly every day, and that he was often seen in neighboring buildings, including a 24-hour laundromat next door.

The FBI and Blimpie teamed up to offer a $20,000 reward in her case.

Brown, the man charged with her kidnapping, was described as homeless and was apparently living at "random facilities and buildings on and off the naval bases", prosecutors said. The trousers had dirt on them, leading investigators to believe they were taken off of her while she was lying on the ground, court document state.

Investigators have not revealed the exact cause of Billie's death.

Witnesses said they saw Brown trying to flirt with Billie on several occasions. She also did not show up for her scheduled college classes near the Virginia Beach Town Center.
