Tennessee coach Butch Jones reportedly fired after blowout loss

According to multiple media reports, Butch Jones has been relieved of head coaching duties at the University of Tennessee.

Sports Illustrated first reported Jones was out.

Defensive line assistant Brady Hoke will assume the interim head coach responsibilities for the Vols. The Vols went 5-7 for a fourth straight losing season in Jones' debut year but followed that up by going 7-6 in 2014 and posting consecutive 9-4 finishes the last two years.

"Jones went 34-27 overall and 14-24 in the SEC over five seasons". Tennessee lost to Mizzou last night 50-17.

The Vols will need an interim head coach and Brady Hoke is the next man up.

Two weeks prior, Tennessee had dropped a game at Kentucky, their second loss to the team in 33 years.

This doesn't happen all the time. "Blowing into the speaker when the microphone is working causes it to fail", Zeird wrote. However, in a recent post , a user shared that they were able to resolve the problem by blowing into the bottom speaker.

As bad as the season has gone, UT still has a slim chance at bowl eligibility; it must win both its remaining games.

With Jones" axing, Tennessee said it will now conduct an "exhaustive search' to look for its fifth coach in 11 years.

If Tennessee wanted to wait until after the season to make a coaching change, the football team's lack of success made that an increasingly hard choice. He will surely land elsewhere, having had success in previous stops at Central Michigan and Cincinnati. The Vols haven't won a SEC title since 1998, which was also the year Tennessee won the national championship under coach Philip Fulmer.

The 59-year-old Hoke has head coaching experience at Ball State (six years), San Diego State (two years) and MI (four years), and after his dismissal at MI after the 2014 season, Hoke was out of coaching for a year before spending the 2016 season as Oregon's defensive coordinator. Finding the right guy has been hard, and there will be intense pressure to get it right this next time.
