Boeing, Airbus gain bumper harvest at Dubai Airshow with historic deals

Veteran airline investor Bill Franke looked set to place a historic $40 billion order for around 400 Airbus jets, shaking up the low-priced industry and turning the annual race between Airbus and Boeing for plane orders on its head. They are USA company Frontier Airlines, Mexico's Volaris, Chilean carrier JetSmart and Hungary's Wizz.

While European aircraft maker Airbus struggles to find new buyers for its A380 super-jumbo, the company has inked its biggest single order for its smaller A320neo family of aircraft at the Dubai Air Show.

With the Dubai show winding down, Airbus' mega-sale made up for its disappointment earlier this week when a big sale of A380 jets to Emirates Airline failed to come together.

A320neos list for 108.4 million dollars (£82 million) apiece and A321neos at 127 million dollars (£96 million), although airlines and manufacturers often negotiate lower prices for big deals like these.

The end of the year will see flydubai have a fleet of 61 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, in addition to a pipeline of 70 aircraft due for delivery by 2023.

The penultimate day of the Dubai Airshow saw two enormous aircraft purchase orders worth $76.5b for both Airbus and Boeing, in one of the most exciting days in recent aviation business history.

Arrest made in death of Ashanti Billie, family says
A retired Navy veteran was arrested Wednesday in the kidnapping of a 19-year-old Maryland woman. She also did not show up for her scheduled college classes near the Virginia Beach Town Center.

But after a quiet start, Airbus seized the attention Wednesday with the enormous Indigo Partners deal, which it said was its "largest single commercial announcement ever".

Boeing, the US aerospace company, said that FlyDubai of the United Arab Emirates has agreed to buy 175 of its 737 Max planes, along with rights to buy another 50.

Indigo Partners is a Phoenix-based private equity firm which owns Frontier Airlines and part of Volaris.

After opening the show with a 40-aircraft commitment from Emirates for the 787-10, Boeing has followed up with smaller orders from three other customers. "We are honoured that flydubai has selected to be an all-Boeing operator for many years to come".

The Dubai Airshow wraps up on Thursday.
