Zoella says sorry over old offensive tweets

The YouTube blogger sparked backlash after messages were discovered on her Twitter account from 2010, which made controversial comments about gay men and branded an X Factor contestant a "fat chav".

Zoe, who has her own beauty line and novel series, was reported to have made comments like: "I find it amusing when gay men spit.it's like they're trying to be a bit macho but never works.' and 'People didn't pay money to vote for Gillian to cop out like a fat kid at a swimming lesson 'on their period"'. "She also seemingly made classist remarks including, "'why are these clothes so expensive' because they're designer you tramp, that there in your hand is a dress worth over £2000.

The 27-year-old vlogger, whose real name is Zoe Sugg, claimed she would "never use" such words as part of her language nowadays, and that some of what she said was taken out of context. "Again I know she might not set the prices, but her target audience who would buy these don't have £50 to spend on an advent calendar!" said one.

One tweet - which has now been deleted - from 2010, said: "I find it amusing when gay men spit.it's like they're trying to be a bit macho but never works".

Many fans appreciated the YouTuber's apology. Numerous items could easily be bought in a £ store....for example you receive a literal bag of CONFETTI behind one of the doors.

Everyone says things when they're young that they regret as they get older, but when you're a popular public figure sometimes that can come back and bite you. However, not everyone was pleased. I was a fan of you until I saw those.

The retailer will now be selling the Christmas calendar at the reduced price of £25 from 16 November.

'So it makes me so sad that a product that I loved and worked hard on, and loads of you liked the product, it's just having that product at that price that was out of my decision, has left so many people so upset'. One person wrote, "She could probably afford a heart of gold too after charging that much for them calendars".

The YouTube queen continued: 'I feel so let down by this also, and the price of any product is up to a retailer.

Following the criticism on social media, a spokesperson for Zoella Lifestyle told Mirror Online: 'Zoe is incredibly proud of the Christmas collection and excited to see it in store.
