'I Respect Women.' Al Franken Apologizes After Being Accused of Sexual Harassment

"What Sen. Franken did is wrong and regardless of political party, sexual harassmen and sexual abuse are unacceptable".

She also said she avoided him for the rest of the tour, while Franken, then a well-known comedian but not yet an elected official, would make "petty insults" about her.

In a statement he released Thursday morning Franken said he was ashamed of his actions, and apologized to KABC's Leeann Tweeden, co-workers, staffers and constituents.

Tweeden said she found out later, from a CD of photographs taken of the tour, that Franken had groped her while she was sleeping on the plane ride from the Mideast to the United States. His office released a statement saying the photo was meant to be amusing, though he also offered his apologies. The host says Franken posed for a photo with his hands on her breasts as she slept. The part included Franken's character coming at her for a kiss, which Tweeden thought she could dodge.

Leeann Tweeden, a Los Angeles radio news anchor, said Thursday that Franken forcibly kissed her during a skit rehearsal while both were on a 2006 USO tour. She wrote that she "said "OK" so he would stop badgering me".

"This is what you should be asking me about", Palin said, as she talked to reporters in the US Capitol, complaining about "double standards here".

"I felt disgusted and violated", she wrote. And, what's more, I can see how millions of other women would feel violated by it-women who have had similar experiences in their own lives, women who fear having those experiences, women who look up to me, women who have counted on me.

Floor collapses at apartment party in Denton; only minor injuries reported
Police say those type of calls are low priority in nature and people have usually left the party by the time officers arrive. Officials also believe the collapse happened because there was too much jumping during the party.

On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) called on the Senate Ethics Committee to review the allegations against Franken.

Tweeden said Franken wrote a skit that included a kiss between the two and said he insisted upon rehearsing it, which she, at first, resisted. "I want them, and all the other victims of sexual assault, to be able to speak out immediately, and not keep their stories -and their anger- locked up inside for years, or decades". "I shouldn't have done it", he said. It isn't amusing. It's completely inappropriate.

Women who come forward are courageous and deserve to be respected. She also said that she believes he pushed to kiss her during a rehearsal the show because they were alone.

In this piece, Franken waxed on a premise about how the internet is making it easier for people to be debauched.

Washington Sen. Patty Murray, the highest-ranking woman in the Democratic Senate leadership said Franken's apology "doesn't reverse what he's done or end the matter". Franken also called for an ethics investigation.

"I want to have the same effect on them that Congresswoman Jackie Speier had on me", Tweeden wrote.

McConnell's push for to review Tweeden's allegations against Franken comes just days after the Senate leader warned Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore that he would face an ethics probe if he wins the upcoming special election, over allegations of sexual misconduct toward teenage girls.
