Apple pushes back its HomePod launch until

After initially promising the Siri-enabled smart speaker by the end of 2017, Apple has revealed it'll be delayed until early next year.

Apple introduced the voice-controlled HomePod in June. Amazon's Echo line starts at $50. Journalists at the event got a hands-on opportunity with the speaker, with release set at the time for December.

It is the second year running Apple has been forced to delay the launch of an audio product, after its wireless earphones, the AirPods, where delayed in late 2016.

Today, it conceded it will "need a little more time" before HomePod is ready for public consumption. We'll start shipping in the USA, United Kingdom and Australia in early 2018. Where Apple does fall short is providing a smart experience with Siri.

Floor collapses at apartment party in Denton; only minor injuries reported
Police say those type of calls are low priority in nature and people have usually left the party by the time officers arrive. Officials also believe the collapse happened because there was too much jumping during the party.

The delay could be related to obtaining the raw materials for the HomePod's components, as John Martellaro suggested on Friday's TMO Daily Observations podcast.

Apple is scrapping its plan to release its new internet-connected speaker in time for the holiday season. HomePod will work with Apple's HomeKit platform to control smart-home devices.

Apple is also counting on HomePod to boost subscriptions to Apple Music and block the rise of rival Spotify. And if you put two HomePods in the same room, both will be aware of the other's presence and will combine forces to improve the capability of the two devices.
