The shootout begun place when the joint team of Punjab Police and Delhi Police tried to enter the building.

A joint team of Delhi and Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested five members of Punjab's infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang after a 30-minute gunbattle in south-west Delhi's Dwarka on Tuesday and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Twelve firearms and over a hundred live cartridges were recovered from them, the police said.

"The accused people have been identified as Deepak, Sumit, Tiku, Sumit and Kirshan, all of whom are residents of Haryana", said a senior police officer.

A witness who was near the station at the time when the incident occurred said he saw a man dressed in plainclothes carrying a "sophisticated weapon" firing towards the building and heard gunshots from inside as well.

A brief encounter broke out between criminals and the Punjab Police. The local district police assisted them in the operation.

A shootout erupted at Dwarka Mor metro station earlier today.

A criminal wanted for murder in Punjab escaped while two others were arrested after a gunfight with the police here on Tuesday. Further Investigation is going, the official added.
