Microsoft Office arrives on Chromebooks via Google Play Store

Microsoft Office has been available on Google's Chromebook Pixel for a while now, but the arrival of the suite to all Chromebooks is a big move for Microsoft and a nod to the growing popularity of Google's lightweight laptops. "They would work for some users and then simply disappear".

The Microsoft of old used its globe-dominating Office suite as a way to keep people in its ecosystem, producing only versions for Windows and Apple's Macintosh. For some reason, the Office suite worked on only a few Chromebooks. But we understand the Office Android apps will only be free to users with specific devices, while others will need to subscribe to Office 365 to take advantage of the apps.

Microsoft Office is now available on Chromebooks via Google Play.

Microsoft Office was released for Android over two years ago, with separate apps for Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

She was invited for the summit earlier this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his state visit to the US. The report states that it has " more to do with the fact Ivanka Trump is leading the USA delegation this year".

Earlier this year, when MSPoweruser asked Microsoft about the Office support for Chromebooks, the company said, "While Google Play on Chrome OS is in beta, we are partnering with Google to deliver the best experience for Chromebook users and plan to make the apps available on all compatible devices by general availability". The apps can be found by searching the Google Play Store. Google declined to comment.

Cloud Pro has contacted Microsoft for confirmation of the rollout but hadn't received a response at the time of publication.

This is major news for productivity users who had previously been interested in Chrome OS, but could never buy a Chromebook because of lack of Office support. Anything larger than 10.1-inches and the subscription fee kicks in. They were able to confirm that Microsoft Office was able to download on the Play Store for all of the mentioned devices.
